Kirkwood Hospice exists to support patients and their families with life threatening illnesses. They provide specialised care for all living in Kirklees. Volunteer Drivers are required to take clients to the day centre at Kirkwood Hospice at 10.00 am and collect them at 3.00 pm, using their own cars. You may occasionally be needed at other times. CRB – Revised & Enhanced Guidelines

The CRB have announced revised and enhanced identification checking guidelines. These guidelines are effective from 28 May. There is a three month implementation window, after which they must be followed. This has implications for any organisation that checks staff and volunteers via the Criminal Records Bureau. There will be a reduced list of acceptable documents and for some people an external identity verification service will need to be used. The details of this external check have not been announced and it is unclear whether this will be an additional cost. As is currently the case, applicants unable to establish their identity under the procedures will need to have their fingerprints taken. It is currently unclear whether the number of people asked to provide fingerprints will increase. Full details can be found at this website.

Volunteers Needed – HomeStart

Home-Start offers emotional support, friendship and practical help to families with at least one pre-school child. Volunteers are needed tovisit families in their homes and help in a variety of situations including, for example, when a family is new to the area, where there is illness / disability, or where there are a number of small children in the home. They are looking for volunteers throughout the Kirklees area who can give 2-3 hours per week, ideally for a minimum period of 1 year. For full details click here. Are you a charity or community group needing volunteers with business skills? Do you have specific problems you would like to solve, but can’t afford to pay?

The KGA & Yorkshire Mafia will run a special Skill Will event on Huddersfield on Wednesday 23rd May for volunteers and organisations to meet and match their skills and needs. Skill Will has had great success in Leeds and Hull already, with further events planned around Yorkshire and the UK. Over £200,000 of time has been donated already.

HTFC Charity Focus Match

Northorpe Hall is now a Charity Partner with Huddersfield Town, meaning that their supporters can buy discounted prices for Charity Focus matches and help raise money for Northorpe Hall at the same time. The next Charity Focus match is Huddersfield Town -v- Scunthorpe United on Saturday 21 April 2012 (3pm Kick Off). Tickets for this match are in the Fantastic Media Family Stand (both Upper & Lower Tier) and due to limited capacity tickets will be subject to availability. The Kirklees community foundation, One Community, is seeking volunteers to help with a bucket collection to be held at the forthcoming Batley Bulldogs v Dewsbury Rams rugby match, at Batley’s Mount Pleasant ground on Friday 6th April.
