Success Stories

The Organisation: Cancer Research

Name:- Katie

Katie - Cancer Research Volunteer

Can you tell us the types of things you are getting involved in as a volunteer?

Well – where do we start?  There is such a wide range of activities at Cancer Research UK that I am involved in.  Over the last year I have helped in a number of events and situations including marshalling at Race for Life, helping out at a Relay for Life, assisting at a Charity Ball and helping out at a Pink Party!.

What do you enjoy the most?

The variety and flexibility! Because I cannot commit to a set number of hours each week, I am able to volunteer as and when I am available and have still been able to make an active contribution to Cancer Research UK in my area.

What message have you got for potential volunteers?

We are looking for volunteers to join our team.  If you like socialising, meeting new people and having fun, if you are enthusiastic and want to help Cancer Research UK cure cancer faster, then volunteer now!

Organisation:- Cancer Research UK

Briefly explain what your organisation does?

Cancer Research UK is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to cancer research.  In order to support our vision 'Together we will beat cancer', Cancer Research UK has created ten goals that, together with our partners, we aim to accomplish by the year 2020. You can read all about these goals at

http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/aboutus/whoweare/ourgoals/

What opportunities are there for volunteers within your organisation?

There are loads of opportunities ranging from attending Cancer Research UK, events, attending presentations, joining our Action Team in Huddersfield, fundraising, providing advice to supporters, joining us in our Leeds office to managing and running our latest exciting event, Relay for Life.

How do volunteers contribute to your organisation?

We would not exist without volunteers.  They are vital to Cancer Research UK.

Can you give potential volunteers a message?

Whether you have an hour or two to spare a few times a year or a day or two every week.  Cancer Research UK will endeavour to find a volunteering opportunity to suit you. We will also provide you with on-going training and supervision to make the most of your role.  If you want to help people with cancer and make a real difference – look no further.
