Applications for the 2014 West Yorkshire Police Explorer Programme are now open.
The Explorer Programme is targeted at young people between 16 and 18 years old, with the aims of:
- Engaging with young people representative of the communities and neighbourhoods of the Divisions delivering the programme
- Providing voluntary opportunities for young people to gain an insight into modern policing, whilst making a positive contribution to their local community
- Delivering a diverse and exciting programme demonstrating the role of the Force, and to promote West Yorkshire Police as an attractive and rewarding career opportunity

The Programmes comprises core sessions delivered by West Yorkshire Police officers and staff from a wide range of departments, including Roads Policing, Custody, Hi-Tech Crime, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Corporate Communications and Homicide and Major Enquiry Team. In addition, there are sessions chosen by each Divisional Explorer lead – this may include NPT deployments, Public Order Training, weapons awareness or drugs awareness. The Programme culminates in an Awards Evening, with trophies for the Divisional Explorer of the Year and overall West Yorkshire Police Explorer of the Year.
